Electric Powertrain Engineer

UK-Wide (Hybrid)£500–£650/day6–12 months (extendable)

Ampira Energy is recruiting an Electric Powertrain Engineer for a leading automotive client with hybrid working across the UK. This contract role sits within a fast-moving EV development programme and requires a candidate with hands-on experience in electric motor systems, inverter design, or powertrain integration. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering the client's next-generation electric vehicle platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the design and development of electric powertrain systems including motors, inverters, and transmission
  • Conduct powertrain system modelling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent tools
  • Perform integration testing and validation of electric powertrain sub-systems
  • Collaborate with battery, thermal, and software teams to optimise overall system performance
  • Support the development of powertrain control strategies and calibration
  • Produce technical documentation including system specifications, DVP&R plans, and test reports
  • Contribute to DFMEA and functional safety activities in accordance with ISO 26262

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics
  • Proven experience in electric powertrain engineering within automotive or adjacent sectors
  • Strong understanding of electric motor technologies (PMSM, IM, SRM) and inverter design
  • Experience with powertrain simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, GT-Suite, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 functional safety requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload in a contract environment

Desirable

  • Experience with AUTOSAR-based control system development
  • Knowledge of thermal management for electric powertrains
  • Experience with NVH analysis and optimisation
  • Exposure to OEM programme management processes (APQP, PPAP)
