Senior / Principal Systems Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a UK-based engineering organisation working on electrified propulsion and power conversion systems, is looking for a Senior / Principal Systems Engineer to take ownership of system-level definition and architecture across electric drive technologies.

The position focuses on ensuring alignment across multiple engineering domains while supporting the delivery of integrated electrified systems through structured development processes.

What You'll Be Responsible For

• Defining and managing system-level requirements, spanning vehicle-level considerations through to individual subsystems
• Establishing and evolving system architectures across areas such as electric drive units, power conversion, energy storage, and thermal management
• Ensuring consistency and traceability of requirements and technical decisions throughout the development lifecycle
• Supporting system-level decisions related to performance, integration, and trade-offs
• Working closely with teams across hardware, software, controls, and safety to align system behaviour and design intent
• Contributing to and leading technical discussions, design reviews, and governance activities

Experience & Background

• Experience working in systems engineering roles within electrified powertrain or EV-related applications
• Track record of defining and managing system requirements and architectural frameworks
• Understanding of electric propulsion systems, including motors, inverters, and associated power electronics
• Experience operating across multiple engineering domains, including software, controls, and safety
• Familiarity with structured development approaches such as the systems V-model
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with and influence a range of stakeholders
